Portland has explored storytelling from all angles — as a television host, producer, reporter, radio announcer, writer, and actress. She's the host and producer of What's the Alternative?— a new series about natural health and alternative medicine that will debut later in 2007. She's hosted Nitebeat, a live talk show on the Comcast Network, reported for The American Consumer on PBS, and was the host of Rural Free Delivery on Vermont Public Television. She's produced medical news for WCVB-TV, Boston's ABC News affiliate and has produced for New Morning on the Hallmark Channel and HealthWeek on PBS. Portland's worked as a news announcer on WGBH Radio in Boston and has written for such publications as Vermont Life, the Boston Business Journal, Body & Soul, and Alternative Medicine. She began her career as an actress in New York, where she graduated with a degree in acting from NYU and later appeared on All My Children.
